A history of security and service

Bates Alarms has decades of experience in securing property against fire and intrusion. The company formed in 1965 in a small East London workshop, providing early security systems for market traders’ vehicles and warehouses.

Today our services cover intrusion and fire alarms, emergency lighting, access control, monitoring, keyholder response and more. The workshop has gone, but our commitment to the best technology and first-class service is stronger than ever.

National capability, local service

Alongside high-end residential, our commercial arm covers sectors as diverse as education, distribution, retail and medical. We protect a number of high-security operations including a controlled-substances distribution centre and even a gold bullion storage facility in London.

Most of our work is inside the M25 but we have a significant number of national accounts. Our longevity in the security industry means that wherever you are, if you need an engineer at short notice our large and trusted network will be on hand.

Despite the demanding requirements of many of our customers we a resolutely dedicated to personal service. Our Managing Director, Stephen Bates, personally oversees the vast majority of security surveys and subsequent specifications.

We’re also committed to the environment and are on target to transition from diesel service vehicles to a fleet of LEVC VN5 electric vans by 2024.

Qualified staff and industry accreditations

We’re National Security Inspectorate (NSI) Gold accredited, meaning all our staff are police-vetted and our business has been assessed for its capability. It also means we’re authorised to notify police and fire service response units where appropriate.

We’re also a member of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), a membership organisation that represents the very best of the UK’s security companies.

Our engineers are either qualified (or working towards qualifications) in recognised diplomas in security and fire engineering. Staff train alongside a qualified engineer for a minimum of six months, with most expected to qualify to work independently within 12 months.

Quality British tech

When it comes to hardware, we’re not tied to any particular brand. We do, however, specify high quality British technology (like Texecom) wherever possible. The UK has one of the world’s best regulated and most advanced security industries. We take advantage of that fact, supporting British industry while providing you with the best technology possible.

Sensibly priced contracts

Many national providers low-ball their maintenance contracts but charge through the nose for each and every call-out. We believe there’s a better way. That’s why our maintenance contracts are sensibly priced to give you the service you need, with all call-outs and maintenance comprehensively covered.

We know this is better for you, because our customers stay with us, on average, for about 13 years. That's nearly 2.5 times the industry average of 5.5 years.

You get a high-quality, reliable system with no unexpected bills or hidden charges. And long-term peace of mind.
